Our Family & Friends

We both grew up in families that valued education and creativity. Jendi's two mothers, both retired public-school teachers, live in Manhattan. Adam's mother lives in the Boston area (his father passed away in 1987). His sister spins music as a DJ in Los Angeles. Adam's aunt and uncle live close by in Hartford, CT, and like to drive up for Sunday brunch. Uncle Hugh is a radiologist, and Aunt Lydia works for a company that performs background checks, a job that generates many funny stories. Most of our other relatives are only a couple hours' drive away in New York City or eastern Massachusetts. Our families are very supportive of our adoption plans and excited about welcoming a new baby!

The good friends we've made in Northampton have become like a second family to us. Many church ladies are standing in line to babysit once the little one finally arrives! We have potluck dinners with friends several times a month, sharing organic food and homegrown produce, and sometimes working on craft projects together. We've enjoyed playing with their children and talking about future playdates when we have kids of our own.

Jendi's best friend Greg has been like a brother to her since they met in college two decades ago. He lives in Buffalo with his relatives, but stays in touch by phone at least once a week, and we visit each other once or twice a year. Greg is a prayer team leader at the Unity Church and plays a mean electric guitar. We've asked him to be our future child's godfather.
